Fordham Represents at the Annual Psychology and Law Conference in Miami!

Several Fordham graduate students and faculty were happy to leave the New York winter weather behind for Miami, to attend the American Psychology-Law Society’s (AP-LS) annual conference March 1 to 6th. AP-LS is the 41st division of the American Psychological Association.

Fordham’s forensic contingent was well-represented with seven first-author presentations and a cheerful presence at the conference social events:

Dr. Barry Rosenfeld gave a thought-provoking talk on the use (and misuse) of new feigning assessment instruments.

Dr. Keith Cruise presented a talk on the identification of PTSD in detained youth, and served as discussant for a session on high-risk girls and their transition to adulthood.

Fordham alumnus Dr. Debbie Greene and current graduate students Kate Pivovarova and Matt Stimmel also presented their findings on various methods for evaluating feigning, in a very well-attended session that had eager attendees standing in the aisles. Lively discussion ensued! Becky Weiss presented a talk on the utility of the SIRS (a measure of malingering) with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Mélodie Foellmi spoke about the challenges of screening psychiatric inpatients for further violence risk assessment. Lia Rohlehr, Jesse Barglow, and Spencer Cruz-Katz contributed to the presentations and were also in attendance at the conference.

Keeping with the warm and beachy theme, next year’s conference will be in Puerto Rico! Students interested in submitting something should keep in mind that the deadline is usually around mid-September.
